Victoria Ferguson’s School of Equine Herbal Medicine was established in response to demand from horse owners, managers and equine practitioners.
The first year long course commenced in July 2011, and in 2012 the format has been changed to make the course more accessible and flexible. Students can commence at any time, paying for each module as they undertake it. There will be two weekend workshops one in May in the Hunter Valley and one in November near Melbourne.
The courses provide reliable information to enable horse owners and managers to use herbal remedies with confidence, both for first aid and in the treatment of common health problems.
The courses are taught personally by Victoria through a combination of distance education and workshops, with contributions from expert colleagues for some subjects.
The course covers the following subjects ...
- Natural Health Philsoophy
- Preventive Nutrition
- Herbal First Aid
- Herbal Medicine – Equine Materia Medica
- Herbal Medicine – Holistic Assessment & Treatment
- Evaluating Diagnostic Techniques & Body Therapies
- Integrating Conventional Treatments with Herbal & Natural Therapies
The courses are for self interest and do not purport to provide accredited training. It is important to note that there are no accredited herbal medicine courses for horses available in Australia. However students who already hold accredited qualifications or are studying herbal medicine, naturopathy, massage therapies or equine science are able to utilise knowledge gained from this course into their professional practices.
